The Supreme Court on Thursday issued a three-page interim order in the case filed by late air chief Air Marshal Asghar Khan.
On Monday, the top court had issued notices to the legal heirs of Asghar Khan, after the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) recommended closing the case.
“Notices have been issued to determine whether money was given to politicians or not,” the interim order stated, adding that the FIA has conducted multiple investigations and the statements of the witnesses are contradictory.
“Those who were party to the case, are not aware of the receipts nor mode or time of payments,” the interim order stated.
It added that the exact amount transferred into bank accounts is not clearly known either. The banks have not cooperated with the FIA in sharing their records of the past 24 years.
Further, the order stated that the defendant had not presented any evidence in the case.
The hearing of the case has been adjourned for one week.
On October 19, 2012, the Supreme Court had issued a 141-page verdict, ordering legal proceedings against Gen (retd) Aslam Beg and Lt Gen (retd) Asad Durrani for doling out funds among politicians in the Islami Jamhoori Ittehad formed at the behest of the security establishment to prevent PPP from forming government under Benazir Bhutto.
