KARACHI: Pakistan Navy rescued a stranded Portuguese family in a sailing boat off the Somali coast in an open sea-aid operation on Wednesday.
According to the Pak Navy spokesperson, the PNS Alamgir of the naval forces rescued several people stranded in a sailing ship 180 nautical miles off the Somali coast.
The sailing boat, named Beni Leo II, was left stranded in open-sea after the boat ran out of fuel. Pak Navy rescued the sailors, including children and women – who are on a mission to sail across the world – and provided them with fuel, water and edibles.
The Portuguese sailors thanked the naval officers for the kind gesture.
The rescue operation by Pakistan Navy manifests the strong commitment and resolve of the government of Pakistan to promote and safeguard peace in the region.
